It is 10:25am on Day 3 of MagicCon Vegas. My 13 year old son and I have just joined the line for a meet and greet with some of his favorite Magic personalities. They are huddled together at a vendor booth, with fans waiting to capture their signature. Getting his playmat signed is the single most important event for my son this entire weekend.

A nice employee standing just in front of us holds a sign saying “Line Capped”.

“They capped the line already,” he tells us with a shrug and a sad smile.

It is 4:30pm on Day 2 of MagicCon Vegas. I am standing in line to get a few cards signed by an artist. Brian Kibler walks behind the booth to check his phone, which is a surprisingly human thing to do. He is wearing $80 Magic themed Crocs. They were sold out when we checked the official show store.

“That’s Brian Kibler,” I say to my son.

“Didn’t you say you wanted to beat him in Commander?” he asks.

“Please don’t say that so loudly” I reply.

It is 1:30pm on Day 1 of MagicCon Vegas. Paul Bettany is on stage to introduce The Mind Stone (which is different from the Mind Stone).

THE Mind Stone, not A Mind Stone

He is asked what the best part of being at the show has been.

“The passion from the fans” he responds to a largely passionless audience.

“This is awesome!” my son says as he zooms in on a blurry phone picture he just took.
